ABOUT SHADY CREEK LABRADORS
We are a young family living the country life in southeast Arkansas. We love our labs and our family would not be complete without them. Our children have never lived a day without a lab by their sides.
Star is our 11 year old and Chloe joined our family in 2021. We are very particular in what we like and look for in a labrador retriever. It took lots of searching until we feel like we found the perfect one - Chloe.
Our requirements when we search for another lab to add to our family would be the health and upkeep of the parents. It seems so much depends on the looks and demeanor of the pups parents. In our minds, looks are huge. We like to see blocky heads with shorter, blockier muzzles. In our opinion that makes for a picture perfect and intelligent-looking labrador. Our goal would be not to breed short and stalky. We feel like this can lead to obesity in a dog, and with that comes health issues such as hip dysplasia, etc. Leaner dogs with the classic, blocky heads tend to be more athletic and healthy altogether.
Star has been the perfect companion for our family. Her looks are perfect (she's growing old so losing some of her beauty but still just as sweet), She has the blocky head with a tall and lean build. Her nature has always been very sweet. It feels like you can look her in the eye and talk to her and she understands. She always likes to be very near and if you'll let her she will lightly lay a paw on your lap. She is very docile and great with children even in her older years, bless her heart!
She is super docile... until you tell her to find a stick or you have something to play fetch with; she is geared and ready! She would play until she dropped. We have to be the one to say "done". She can jump really high (not so much anymore these days) and loves to swim (now that's a good relaxing exercise for a retiring dog eh?)!
We feel like we are starting over with Chloe, our mama dog. She's different in many ways, but the same in all that matters. Like Star, we feel like we have gotten the best of the best and she has great potential.
